Beautiful Butterfly Book

100_0356Share my love (some might call it an obsession) for butterflies as you make a free-standing book that looks like it just might fly off the table and flutter away. As you can see, it’s all about turquoise, my fave.  There’ll be some stamping, painting, cutting and lots of gluing involved. Decorative papers, collage images, jewels and ribbon top it off. NEW DATE: Saturday, Oct. 3, 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Stampin’ From the Heart, 11720 Washington Place, L.A.  Call (310) 391-0466 to register or sign up at the store. Cost is $50. Please Bring: precision scissors, big fat glue sticks (two or three), rubber gloves, and LUNCH.

Motherboard Piano Hinge Journal

Aubergine piano hinge journal (cover)

Aubergine piano hinge journal (cover)

Coming in August, we’ll delve into a new way of creating a book. It’s called the Piano Hinge binding, and it looks alot harder than it really is. We’ll decorate the covers with custom papers (we’ll paint and embellish) and lots of scraps. Then we’ll make inside journal pages that you can later write or color or stamp as the spirit moves you). Anyway, it’s lots of fun and I encourage you to bring whatever papers and other goodies you may want to include. Here’s a picture of the journal I am sending into Somerset Studio for the Aubergine call. I’ll be showing the real journal at the class Sunday and taking it in next week. Then I’ll design a new one for the class.

Class on Saturday, Aug. 22, 10:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m., $50; Bring precision scissors, glue sticks, dbl-sided tape, red tape, rubber gloves. Sign up at Stampin’ From the Heart at (310) 391-0466.

Italy, Mi Amore

100_0310I’m just gonna give you a sneak preview of the Italy in a Paper Bag book coming to Stampin’ From the Heart on July 26, that’s a Sunday, from 12:30 to 5 p.m.  Cost is $50. It’s a little bit like the Paris in a Paper Bag book we did a few years back, but not quite as labor intensive (we all had to lie down after that experience).

Again we’ll be transforming bags with wonderful Lumiere paint and adding other goodies. It’s a great way to turn your vacation photos into a keepsake or a gift for some very deserving person. Bring your precision scissors, gluesticks, red tape, rubber gloves and we’ll dig right in. I also suggest bringing lunch and a snack, because we’ll be going straight through. Hope to see you then.

Dots, Dots and Li’l Dot

I actually added the name Li'l Dot onto the cover after I took this picture.

What a surprise I had last week when the June/July isuue of Stampers Sampler landed on my doorstep! My fab flag book, Li’l Dot, made it into the magazine. Page 32 in case you want to see it in all its glory (some pics here for those who just can’t wait). I used this book as the protptype for a class at Stampin’ From the Heart a few months back, so some of you have your very own version of it. They are so much fun to make and even more fun to open up.

A big thank you Karen, the lovely ladies who took the class, and the wonderful editors at Somerset, all of whom continue to support my artwork. I’ve sent in a number of other goodies, so am hoping for the best. Next will be an answer to the Somerset Studio magazine’s call for Aubergine (that’s just a fancy word for eggplant). I’ve been gathering materials for a coupla months now and am just about ready to get my hands all purple.

Fleurs and Coeurs CD Holder Book

“Fleurs and Coeurs”!! That means Hearts and Flowers in French. Ooh la-la.

We’ll bring an an old-fashioned songbook into a new age with this clever CD holder book. It’s great fun to color the plain white book (pick  a jewel tone–the one shown here is ruby) with Adirondack inks and sprays. Then we’ll use some vintage sheet music to make a custom CD and all the stuff that goes with it.

Class will be Saturday, March 28, at Stampin From the Heart, from 10:30 till 3-ish (bring lunch). Please bring these supplies: glue stick, double-sided tape, and precision scissors. Strongly suggested: glue dots and rubber gloves (if you have them). Call the store to reserve a spot. $50.

Hope to see you then. And when in doubt, Jess Create It!
