I am returning the Stampin’ From the Heart after recovery from open heart surgery and that sounds really dramatic, but I’m back to normal (have I ever really been normal?) and like the card says, I feel better. We’ll be doing a challenge taken from the latest Take Ten magazine, in which I also happen to have a card published. There’ll be lots of color choices for you, and a variety of greetings and image, though the basic design is based on the Take Ten template. I found it fun to mix and match colors and papers to get different results. All materials will be supplied. Please join me on Friday, Aug. 10, at Stampin’ From the Heart, 11720 Washington Place, L.A., from 6:30-8 p.m. or so. Cost $5 per card. Make as many as you like while supplies last.

Cats & Black Make-It/Take-It
I’m not much of a one for Halloween cards, but this is about as close as I get. I found some very neat bird tissue paper and just had to use it with my Cats Inchies. Kind of my weird, some may say warped, sense of humor. The tissue looks kind of orangey, if you have a good imagination, and the cats are black, of course. So, it’s Halloween with a twist. I hope you can join me for Make-It/Take-It at Stampin’ From the Heart, drop in from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 14, 2011, 11720 Washinton Place, L.A., 310-391-0466 for directions. Cost is $5 per card; materials supplied. You can make one or as many as you like while supplies last.
All Things Francais (aka French) MITI
I kinda went wild on the subject of France for this month’s Make-It/Take-It and also got carried away with Tattered Angels sprays. They’re so colorful, I can’t resist them. But the surprise guest is wonderful glimmery, shimmery watercolors (like the ones we used for Extravaganza). J’adore these paints–so much fun and the combinations are endless. They add an unexpected bright spot on any card. Please join me for Make-It-Take-It, July 8, 2011, 6:30-8 p.m. or so, at Stampin’ From the Heart,11720 Washington Place, L.A. (310-391-0466 for directions), all materials supplied. Cost $5 per card, make as many as you wish while supplies last. Hope to see you there.
Special May MITI
I’m doing a special Make-It/Take-It this month on the first Friday. It features four mix-and-match cards to choose from. They’re good for any theme: Wedding, Graduation, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Happy Birthday or Just Because. There are stamps to cover all those occasions and a few more. We’ll be using metallic paper from SEI’s luscious Couture line–I fell in love instantly. Each card is mounted on beautiful silver glossy card stock that makes these cards look extra special. Join me Friday, May 6, drop in starting at earlier — at 6 p.m.– till 8ish, at Stampin’ From the Heart, 11720 Washington Place (at McLaughlin Ave.). Cost is $5 per card, make as many as you like as long as supplies last. Materials supplied by instructor, Jessica Hollowell. Hope to see you there.
Valentine Make-It/Take-It
My challenge was to make Valentine cards without using red hearts. I think I succeeded. I found some lovely vellum in the vast storehouse of paper in my studio and came up with two designs that I think fill the bill. Lime green, pastel pink and purple sound valentiney, right? And could I possibly make a Valentine card without birds? The short answer is: No. Gee, I hope you like them as much as I do. Join me for a special third-Friday of the month Make-It/Take-It at Stampin’ From the Heart, Friday, January 21, 6:30-8 p.m. Make as many as you like while supplies last. Cost $5 per card.
Bingo Make-Takes
This month, we’ll be combining Tattered Angels bingo cards with Golden Fluid Acrylic paints for a new twist on Bingo: The winning square is an image from B-Line Design’s Bella Twosie cube stamp. With a couple of more embellishments, of course. It all happens Friday, Oct. 8, 2010, at Stampin’ From the Heart, 11720 Washington Place, Los Angeles. Call 310-391-0466 for directions. Make-It-Take-It starts at 6:30 and end about 8 p.m. Cost is $5 per card. Do one or more as supplies last. All materials are supplied by Los Angeles-based paper and book artist Jessica Hollowell, your instructor for the evening. Hope to see you there.
Polished and Pretty
Ever bump into an old friend you haven’t seen for a while and the conversation just seems to pick up where you left it? Well, that’s kinda how it went the other day when I ran across some beautiful background papers I made while visiting my friend Cherri in Colorado a couple of years ago. I was so taken by how pretty these papers were that I dusted off the box of Tim Holtz polished stone inks and went at it. Aah, the colors!! Add some new Magenta collage images — butterflies, old-fashioned faces and flowers — and a little embellishment with antique lace seam binding and my, my, I was a happy little camper. You can be one, too, at the Make-It/Take-It at Stampin’ From the Heart, 11720 Washington Place, L.A., (call (310) 391-0466 for directions), Friday, Sept. 10, 2010, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Cost is $5 a card. Make as many as you like as supplies last. All materials supplied by instructor Jessica Hollowell. You might want to bring rubber gloves, especially if you just got your nails done.
‘Inchie Birds, Butterflies and Flowers, too
I’m in love with inchies — 1-inch square stamps with tiny scenes. My newest favorite is the Birds and Butterflies set from Inkadinkado. I also have their Flower Garden set (from the last Extravaganza). We’ll be using a combination of these stamps for the next Make-It/Take-It at Stampin’ From the Heart (call 310 391-0466 for directions). My design involves stamping four inchies on different scraps of decorative paper, combining them into a four-square postoid and then coordinating it with other color panels. I had a wonderful time making these (couldn’t stop, actually, because the possibilities are endless) and I am sure you will too. Join me on Friday night, June 11, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Stampin From the Heart, cost $5 per card . Make one or as many as you like while supplies last. All materials provided by me, Los Angeles-based paper artist Jessica Hollowell.

May Flowers Make-It-Take-It
My garden is so beautiful this time of year, roses popping open, unexpected gifts from Mother Nature all over the place. And in return, my gift to you is our May 14 Make-It-Take-It at Stampin’ From the Heart. These greeting cards are all about spring colors and beauty and I think you’ll like them. While searching for something one day in my vast collection of paper, I came across some colorful vellum and that started things off. We’ll be playing with inks, vellum, colorful papers and topping it all off with a paint chip ticket. Lots of layers and the best part is you can follow one of 6 designs I made or choose your own pieces from an array of colorful cardstock and images. We’ll be featuring the strips of Art Tickets by Invoke Arts. I can’t seem to get enough of them. Make-It-Take-It, Friday, May 14, 2010, 6:30-8:30 p.m., Stampin’ From the Heart, 11720 Washington Place, Los Angeles, 310-391-0466 for directions. Cost: $5 each card. All materials supplied by instructor (me) Jessica Hollowell.
‘If Friends Were Flowers…
…I’d pick you. ”
I was thinking the other day how grateful I am for my friends. They are with me when times are good and support me when times are tough. It’s a special kind of love we have for our friends. So I decided to honor that blessing in my life by creating a series of greeting cards that celebrates friendship. I hope you can join me Friday, March 12, 6:30-8:30 p.m., at Stampin’ From the Heart in Los Angeles. Fee $5 per card, all materials supplied by Jessica Hollowell.
